Some questions about Plan B, side effects, and time frame, please help?
We (my girlfriend and I) had unprotected sex Wednesday night at around 8 PM. We were doing it for around 3-5 minutes when we realized what we were doing was completely wrong and we stopped. I never finished (obviously), but I was still worried about the pre-ejaculate fluid that I know I produce (not in large quantities, just a normal amount). On Saturday, she took the Plan B emergency contraceptive that has two pills, one at 5 PM and another at 5 AM this morning. Counting hours, that is within the 72 hour effectiveness time frame that she took the pill. Her period hasn’t come (it was supposed to be today) and I don’t know if it’s because of the proximity of her taking the pills to the period or a normal side effect, or if she is in fact pregnant. She and I are stressing over it, but she’s been stressed to the point of crying and has still had her period so I don’t think she is having a late one because of stress. Is it normal/common to have a late period after taking the Plan B contraceptive? If so, should I wait until this Wednesday, a week after we had unprotected sex, or this Saturday, a week after she took the pills to go out and get a home pregnancy test? I’m 18 and she is 17, we’re both usually very responsible about it but we got caught in the morning and are very nervous. Also, she got the feeling she usually gets before she gets her period but there was no period. Her period should come today or tonight and it hasn’t come. Rather than waste answers on "Just wait," I’d rather have people answer as if she doesn’t get her period within the next 3 or 4 days. Please help :/
Plan B can certainly mess with your period. If she had the normal pre-period side effects but just has no period yet, it’ll probably come within a few days. Anything is possible, but it’s unlikely that she got pregnant at that point in her cycle on Wednesday. Since her period was technically due today, she can even take a pregnancy test today. If it comes up negative and she still has no period within a few days, she can take another one, but it’s definitely not too early to test. Good luck!

Late periods are the most common complaint about the morning-after pill. If people understood the most rudimentary principles behind ovulation, menstruation, and pregnancy, they wouldn’t wonder why Plan B makes them bleed early or late.
Plan B is a large dose of progesterone. Progesterone is the hormone produced by the body to hold the uterine lining in place for two weeks after ovulation. If a fertilized egg doesn’t implant in the uterus within that time, the progesterone levels DROP and the woman starts her period.
So yesterday, when her natural progesterone levels had probably dropped to the point where she would have gotten her period today, she instead takes a big old progesterone pill, which is going to drive her progesterone levels right back UP. And yet you both wonder why her period didn’t come. She may yet get it, but I wouldn’t count on it for at least a couple more days. This stuff can affect menstruation for more than one cycle for some people.
And no matter what happens, a home pregnancy test doesn’t have a prayer of being accurate until two weeks after the sex. There is no pregnancy hormone to detect until after implantation happens, and that cannot happen in three days (it can take up to twelve) So you can’t test this Wednesday OR Saturday. It would just be wasting more money that would be better spent on condoms.
P.S.—she’s probably not pregnant.

Im with Helene. There is absolutely no way you can tell now. All you can do is wait. It will be atleast two wks before you know, unlees her period comes before then.
